The 2016 New York Colon Cancer Challenge

Certified, Timed 5K ~ Remembrance & Prevention Walk ~ Kid's Fun Run ~ Local Challenge

We apologize for having to postpone the event but registration numbers for the October 1st Randall’s Island NY Colon Cancer Challenge are not keeping pace with numbers from previous years. This was an extremely difficult decision to make but it is the responsible and right thing to do. Without sufficient registrations the substantial costs of the event cannot be recouped and those precious resources would not then be able to support our mission and lifesaving programs.

Many of you have communicated to us that an October Challenge was a real “October Surprise”! We agree – the plan was a major shift from the chill winds of March to the warmer breezes of early autumn.

We are thrilled to have identified and secured a New York City venue that can host our walk and competitive 5k run and are already working with them to explore a Challenge date in 2017. Icahn Stadium is a world class sports facility and Randall’s Island Park offers miles of waterfront pathways, expansive gardens and fantastic views of Manhattan.

Based on our recent experience it will be important to have plenty of time to let folks know the planned date for the next NYC Challenge. We will be reaching out to our community for YOUR feedback on the timing of our next Challenge event.

We will also be reaching out to each registered participant to issue full refunds for registrations within the next few days. Participants can also decide to decline the registration refund as a “donation” to the Foundation toward its ongoing programs focused on A World Without Colorectal Cancer ™.

Participants can also continue their fundraising efforts on behalf of the Foundation as those funds will be applied directly to our public awareness, prevention, screening and research programs.

The Foundation would like to thank Randall’s Island Park Alliance, our participants and volunteers who have supported our ground breaking initiatives and efforts over many years. We look forward to continuing to work with our supportive community as we move forward with our robust roster of events and programs as we continue our life-saving work focused on public awareness, prevention, screening and research.

Please also know plans are well underway for the Third Annual Early Age Onset Colorectal Cancer Summit which will be held in the spring of 2017. Stay tuned to our website for updates on date and location.
